What was your biggest cooking disaster?
I tried to make Cafe du Monde beignets from a mix at Cost Plus. Ugh! Misread the directions (BADLY) and started putting in seven cups of water instead of seven tabelspoons or something. I eneded up using the entire box to try and fix it instead of starting a new batch. Oh it was awful, flour everywhere, they were heavy as hell and sunk in the oil istead of floating like they should.

Wowser I'm the question of the day!
If you had to write your autobiography in 6 words, what would you write?
Submitted by mitzie.
I answered this the day I submitted it as a question.
Smiling vox loves family; New Yorker. Considered replacing New Yorker with picky foodie.
My friend Brock emailed this to me (www.thebittersuite.blogspot.com).
From Brock:
At work, one of my colleagues presented this challenge and I was wondering what all of your responses would be.
Ernest Hemingway was once asked to write an entire story in 6 words. He stated that he thought the result (For sale: Baby shoes; never worn) was the best work he ever did.
If you had to write your Autobiography in 6 words, what would it be? (I think I'll suggest it as the question of the day).
This is what I came up with:
Smiling vox loves family; New Yorker.
Considered replacing New Yorker with picky foodie. I'm all about voiceover hence "vox".
How do you feel about your birthday? Do you look forward to it and remind all your friends, or do you dread it and try to keep it a secret?
I don't remind anyone but I LOVE when people remember it and call me/text me/send me an email or a card. And I'm just crazy about my actual birthdate. Naturally it's the best date in the world - to you. But I love looking at it. I see 5/18 in any format and I immediately think "That's a great date". I selfishly don't even want to share it with anyone! It's mine, mine, MINE!
I have a problem don't I? Well I don't care, it's MINE!!!
I like remembering people's birthdays too. I try to keep reminders cause most people like when you remember them on their birthday. Fun!
What are five words you really like?
Submitted by purplesque.
I can't think of 5 words, just two of my very very favorite words:
Pamplemousse* and Papillion*
*grapefruit and butterfly in French respectively.
Ok, actually I kind of forgot tchotchke. Not a super favorite like the two above but comes dang close!
What are your rituals or traditions for starting off a new year?
My entire family comes over to drink soup joumou (pumpkin/squash soup). My family is Haitian and January 1st is Independence Day for us as well. And my Mom usually gives us yellow underwear for Christmas so we can wear it on New Year's Day. No idea why but if it ain't broke, why fix it!
If you had a time machine, which year would you travel to and why?
Submitted by Michelle.
Hmmm I think it's a toss up between 1996 - the summer I went on Semester At Sea and traveled to 6 countries in the South Pacific and met some of my greatest friends or 1998 - the year I had a great fun job at Fox, the best boss and the Yankees were having an INCREDIBLE season.
Ringtones: What's yours and how often do you change it?
Submitted by enrico.
I have several ringtones. Different groups have ringtones and specific people have ringtones. My sister's is Silent Morning cause she always loved that song. The office ringtone is Crazy Train. And my regular incoming calls ringtone (for now) is Down With The Sickness. I love my phone cause it came with the software to make any song into a ringtone. Whoo hoo!
When did you last write/receive a handwritten, snail-mail letter? Who was it to/from?
Submitted by Places Unknown.
A month ago surprisingly enough. My friend David sent a letter along with a magazine he wanted me to take a look at. I wish I got more letters. When I was younger my cuzin and I would write tons of letters back and forth. So fun. I guess I settle for email now.
What one year of your life would you like to re-live, if you were given the chance?
Submitted by Ross.
It's a toss up between 1996 and 1998. I did Semester At Sea in 1996 and I think it really changed my life. But 1998 was great too - it was like THE best Yankees year for me. That amazing record, interviewing Derek Jeter and Joe Girardi, going to a game in each round of the palyoffs including Game 1 of the World Series where my favorite player Tino Martinez hit agrand slam that eventually won the game!! Whoooo good times!
What television show stands the test of time?
Naturally you KNOW my answer to that question - THE GOLDEN GIRLS!!! You didn't think I'd pick anything else did you?
